Our Basic Needs Initiative
TaskForce’s basic needs program centers the needs and experiences of the most marginalized members of our community. While we are located on the West Side, Taskforce provides a range of free services to hundreds of community members across Chicago.
About the Basic Needs Program
TaskForce is committed to providing resources that build and sustain healthy, thriving communities.
With a focus on Black and Brown LGBTQ+ folx, TaskForce is committed to providing resources that build and sustain healthy, thriving communities. We do this by not only providing basic needs, but by offering skills and resources that promote longevity and equip community members with life-sustaining tools. Our resources fall into three main categories: 1) Food and Clothing Assistance 2) Housing and Work Assistance and 3) Health, Wellness, and Safety. Our basic needs program includes an onsite food pantry and clothing closet that provides food and clothing items to mitigate food insecurity and clothing needs. We also provide workforce development, housing navigation, mental and physical care, and STI testing.
Legal services are often overlooked as an essential resource. However, as Black and Brown queer and trans folx experience unprecedented levels of violence and are subjected to a web of systemic barriers, access to legal services promotes safety and equity within vulnerable communities. Our legal service clinic provides community members with legal representation, and record processing such as name change and expungement., and a legal clinic which provides clients with legal representation, and record processing such as name change and expungement.
